Families today face many complex conversations with their children and loved ones. Conversations about safety, identity, and how to respond when they encounter unfair or hurtful situations.

During a recent town hall about community safety and concerns related to immigration enforcement, team members shared personal experiences about navigating these difficult topics with their own children.

Moments like these can be challenging for parents who want to protect their children while also helping them understand the realities of the world around them. Several staff members reflected on how unsettling it can be when young people experience hostility or discrimination, and how parents are often left searching for the right words to guide them.

Opening the door for honest conversation is often the first step. Encouraging young people to talk about their experiences and feelings can help families process difficult moments together and build resilience.

We recognize that supporting individuals often means supporting families as well. When families feel equipped to communicate openly, it strengthens emotional well-being and creates a stronger sense of security.

By sharing experiences and learning from one another, we continue building stronger networks of care and community for everyone we serve.
