History

We are indebted to the family members who founded Triple C Housing.  In 1979, concerned family members banded together to fulfill a critical need at that time: to develop quality community based housing for their offspring afflicted with a disability.  In 1985, Triple C purchased our first group home to serve 5 individuals discharged from state institutions; and now, 37 years later, we support over 240+ individuals and families…and growing more opportunities each and every day! 

The ability of Triple C to provide broad based community supports and develop safe, affordable housing opportunities offers individuals a wide array of options in a variety of settings. This flexibility in choice has enabled Triple C to attain a large measure of success with matching individuals to housing opportunities, and individualizing support plans to achieve independence. Additionally, sustaining community tenure is largely due to the development of tenant operated housing for individuals whose residential options are so limited. The need in New Jersey is acute. For most individuals of very low income, it is impossible on such limited financial resources to secure a safe, permanent and affordable place to live.

Since its inception, Triple C has continually identified the need to create more affordable housing opportunities to fully integrate individuals in safe and decent neighborhoods; and proactively attend to the unique, needs of persons served. As such, Triple C has maintained a steady stream of housing development linked with enhanced support services to respond to the growing needs of the community.

2015 marked a very special milestone in Triple C’s history as we honored our 35th anniversary of fulfilling our mission of “creating permanent supportive housing opportunities coupled with innovative support services empowering individuals to live with dignity and fulfill their utmost potential.” By developing high quality affordable housing and providing community based support services, our most vulnerable citizens may break the cycle of homelessness or institutionalization, and find a place of their own to call home. Triple C is a well founded, grass-roots organization that has helped to make the dream of living independently with dignity become a reality for those we serve.

Milestones 1979-2016

 

1979 Incorporated Concerned Citizens for Chronic Psychiatric Adults – a.k.a., CCCPA, Inc.
1985 Triple C Housing opened its first group home in Middlesex County to serve 5 individuals discharged from Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital; development of this first residence was made possible thanks to the generous support of private donors who helped to found Triple C Housing, and support from the NJ Division of Mental Health Services.
1989 Semi-supervised Apartments opened to support 9 individuals in scattered site apartments throughout Middlesex County.
1995 CCCPA split into two organizations – CCCPA Alliance for the Mentally Ill and CCCPA Residential services.
1996 3 graduate apartments opened throughout Middlesex County with support from the NJ Division of Mental Health Services Grant
1997-1999 2 consumer operated homes opened; increasing services to an additional 7 individuals.
2000-2002 2 consumer operated home opened; expanding services to an additional 6 individuals.
2001 Agency rebranded it’s name to Triple C Housing, Inc. – A Continuum of Care and Concern
2001-2002 Increased capacity and operations; expanding services to 37 people served.
2002-2003 Added 3 subsidies, expanding services to 46 people served.
2003-2004 1 additional consumer operated home opened and two additional apartments. Underwent a tremendous Medicaid conversion to the adult mental health rehabilitation option; expanding services to 49 people served.
2003-2005 Opened two additional apartments with mainstream section 8 vouchers expanding services to 51 people served.
2004-2005 Completed construction on another consumer operated home, expanding services to 54 people served.
2005-2006 Awarded an Office of Housing Advocacy grant for affordable, supportive housing development; began developing our first multifamily site to serve tenants of very low income and individuals with special needs, our first integrated development. Awarded Middlesex County HOME funds for capital improvements at all sites. Awarded the H2O program McKinney Grant to support 3 tenants, and increased capacity to serve a total of 63 tenants. Participated in strategy sessions to address the Base Realignment Closure and of the Camp Kilmer Military Base in Edison Township and the agency Executive Director appointed to Co-Chair the Camp Kilmer Collaborative.
2006 Ribbon cutting takes place for Triple C Housing’s first multi-family residence via the NJ HMFA Special Needs Housing Trust Fund.
2006-2007 Awarded additional funding for Supportive Housing services and started development of our second multifamily site in Ocean County; increasing housing opportunities and services to 72 people.
2007 H2O – Housing with Heart to Outreach opened to 3 individuals formerly homeless and in recovery.
2007-2008 Began development on our third and fourth multifamily residences in Edison; increasing capacity to 82 people served.
2008 Formal office space secured.
2009 New development in the pipeline to serve 10 additional consumers.
2008-2009 Exponentially grew our housing development portfolio. Triple C Housing chosen as the lead developer for Camp Kilmer Homes. Awarded 8 Shelter + Care vouchers by the Middlesex County Continuum of Care /US Dept. of HUD; Expanded service provisions and property management.
2009 Acknowledged by NJPRA as Outstanding Provider -Transformation in Wellness and Recovery for Mental Health Consumers. Celebrated our 30th Anniversary!
2009-2012 Actively engaged in structuring the Legally Binding Agreement for the BRAC Closure of Camp Kilmer.
2010-2012 Developed alliances and partnerships to expand Support Housing opportunities via the Raritan Riverfront Homeless Project working in partnership with New Brunswick. Developed Supportive Housing multi-family in South Brunswick.
2013 Completed new construction for the homeless in New Brunswick with support from the City of New Brunswick HOME program, the New Brunswick Housing and Redevelopment Authority, the NJ HMFA Special Needs Housing Trust Fund; Serving over 100 individuals!
2014 Kilmer Homes partnerships solidified and Triple C Housing chosen as supportive service provider.
2014 Super Storm Sandy Block Grant awarded for 75 additional individuals in Middlesex and Monmouth Counties.
2015 Kilmer Homes construction completed on 120 units, with 30 units set aside for 30 homeless families and individuals.
2016 Serving over 240+ individuals and families in 3 counties.
2016 Awarded the Governor's Supportive Housing Award - Promise House
